B Swim Safe
Johannesburg, South Africa
Rikki Maman is the first instructor to be trained abroad, under the expertise of Kyla Heumann, RN. Her training was facilitated by Brendan Varrie, owner of B's Swim School. Their goal was to reach out to as many underprivileged children as possible and offer them a chance to learn to swim and survive in an effort to decrease the high number of drownings that happen in the rural townships and villages in South Africa each year. Rikki solicited sponsors for orphan babies at the Door of Hope Children's Mission to cover costs of transportation, supervision and essentials required for lessons.
Rikki has spent the past 8 years as a behavioral therapist, working with children of all ages. She is excited to combine her previous experience as a therapist with her Infant Aquatics certifiication to give children the tools needed to be safer in their surroundings, both on land and in the water.
Judy Heumann traveled to Johannesburg in August, and was privileged to observe Rikki teaching her beautiful babies during her visit. We are honored to have Rikki as a member of our group.
