About Amy

My name is Amy Gildemeister and I am the owner of Sunflower Swimmers LLC in Hays, Kansas. I attended Fort Hays State University for both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees where I also fell in love with my husband Stefan. In six years, we added our dog, Scout, to the family and welcomed our sweet baby boy, Mason.

Growing up in western Kansas, going to the pool was the only thing to do during the summertime. This is where I worked my first job as a lifeguard. I learned to teach swim lessons and water aerobics during my high school years and continued into my college years working for the FHSU Office of Intramurals as a lifeguard. I enjoyed working with young children and seeing them playing safely in the water!

After the birth of my son in 2018, my mindset changed as I became a mother. Anxiety quickly set in and I soon found that dangers were all around him. I constantly worried about his safety. I wanted to enroll in a Mommy and Me swimming class, but none were available in my area for his young age , and the closest survival swim lessons were over three hours away. I knew I had to do something, and that’s when I decided to train with Judy Heumann at Infant Aquatics.

After more than 150 hours of training, I am excited to bring these invaluable lessons to Hays and the surrounding communities.
