Hi, I'm Ashleigh! I grew up in Durban, a coastal town in South Africa, and was pretty much always a water baby. I lived for beach and pool days and didn't only join a swim team - I started surfing too - just so I could spend as much time as possible in water. When I moved to Johannesburg I was offered an opportunity to leave my corporate sales job to become a swim coach. I jumped at the opportunity and went ahead and got a 'traditional swim school' qualification but quickly realised that there's no value in teaching children to love the water if they aren't learning how to be safe in it too - and that terrified me. When I fell pregnant this fear intensified and I decided that I had to become IA certified as soon as possible. So, at 8 months pregnant, we got the AMAZING Margie Harris Herman to train me. Training was intense but honestly it blew my mind how much we underestimate infants and toddlers, they pick up this training so incredibly quickly showing us just how capable they truly are. I love that I get to spend my days in my happy place - the water, while teaching littles to not just love the water, but to thrive in it.
