About Cecilia

Hello! My name is Cecilia Souza and I am from New Hampshire. My love for the water began as a young child when I discovered the world of competitive swimming and continued as I began my first teenage job as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Being in the water has always felt freeing.

While continuing to teach lessons part time, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire. I then went on to become an elementary school teacher, teaching third grade. Although being in the classroom brought me happiness, after a few years, I came to realize that there was no happiness that could be compared to that brought on by sharing my love for the water, which is when I decided to make a career change to teach swim lessons full-time.

During my job search, I realized the local swim programs offered lessons to children of a variety of ages, but only offered simple water acclimation lessons to children under the age of three years old. Knowing that drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1-4 years old, I was determined to find a way to bring survival swim lessons to the area to provide children of the most vulnerable ages with lessons.

As a native to New Hampshire, a state filled with beautiful lakes, rivers and coastal fronts, I am proud to be the first certified infant instructor in Southern New Hampshire. During my training with Infant Aquatics, I completed over 100 hours of in water, hands on training and over 50 hours of observation in addition to academic studies on child development, psychology and the physics behind survival swimming. I look forward to empowering your child with the necessary skills for self-rescue in any water encounter through my lessons taught at Mini Mermaids Infant Aquatics®
