About Cherelle

For over 18 years, Cherelle Thompson has worn the cap of a competitive international swimmer and is now ready to pass the baton, wearing additional hats of certified Infant Aquatics® Instructor and founder of Aqua Sense Swim School TT.

Born and raised in the island of Trinidad and Tobago, Cherelle’s introduction to her extensive swimming career began at age 4. Her unique passion and sense for the water was discovered and athletic gifting blossomed into a rewarding swimming career that took her around the globe as both National and collegiate athlete. A Trinidad national and Caribbean regional record breaker, Cherelle represented her country on the international stage at FINA World Championships and Pan American Games with semifinal and final performances at the Commonwealth Games and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games respectively. In 2010 she was awarded the Junior Athlete of the Year by the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC). As a University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer, Cherelle is a two-time All American and All-SEC (2nd team) awardee following her high-point performances as a double SEC medalist, and NCAA finalist in the 200m freestyle relay and individual SEC finalist in the 50m freestyle. Cherelle concluded her collegiate career with a smashing 2016 Olympic B qualification in the 50m freestyle.

Cherelle’s undergraduate degree in Kinesiology compliments the experiential knowledge as an athlete and the comprehensive training in becoming a certified Infant Aquatics instructor. 150 hours of hands on training with infants, toddlers and preschoolers, combined with education in child development, behavioral psychology, anatomy and physiology deems her most equipped to assist your child in acquiring foundational aquatic survival skills and stroke technique.

I am excited to serve as an Infant Aquatics instructor because of the dual opportunity to make a difference in the event of an aquatic accident while also sowing seeds for the next generation of aquatic athletes,” says Cherelle.

"My aim is to introduce your child to the wonderful world of swimming and gain independence and confidence in the water as early as possible. I will do so with the highest standard of excellence and integrity in training. Whether competitive swimming or safe enjoyment of the water is in their future, my goal is to turn AquaSense into common sense."
