About Christian

Hey there! My name is Christian, and I was born in Arlington, Texas. Whether it was fishing with my dad, water skiing with my grandparents, or just hours in the pool during the hot Texas summers, water has always been close by. When we welcomed our little girl into the world, I wanted her to have the same love of water, but I also wanted her to be safe. This is when I started looking online and found Infant Aquatics. Around the same time, I learned that drowning is one of the most preventable yet neglected public health problems in the world affecting young children. It was then that I decided to be a part of bringing safety to the water experience for children.

I had the privilege of spending six weeks under the mentorship of Judy Heumann, a pioneer in the field of infant swimming and the founder of Infant Aquatics. Over the course of 100+ hours in the pool together, I learned the skills necessary to successfully teach the Swim-Float-Swim technique. During this training I also extensively studied child development, behavioral techniques, anatomy and physiology, and safety guidelines.

Is a program like this even necessary in Saudi Arabia? A study* was published in 2021 that reported on drownings in the Kingdom. Here are some of the findings: 22% of drownings had a fatal outcome or resulted in neurological damage, the most reported drowning site was private pools (82%), the majority of cases involved children younger than the age of two (54%), and the majority of death or permanent neurological damage cases were unsupervised events (75%). The researchers concluded, “Drowning among children is a major burden on [Saudi] population health. In our study, one-fifth of children either died or sustained neurologic disability.” I hope that through my program, we can be a part of driving statistics like these to zero. One child drowning is one too many. I want every child I train to feel confident and competent in the water!

In addition to being an Infant Aquatics Survival Specialist, I also hold the following certifications: American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, U.S. Center for SafeSport Trained, CDC HEADS UP Concussion Training for Youth Sports Coaches, USA-Swimming Core Certification, USA-Swimming Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and American Red Cross Safety for Parents and Caregivers.
