About Laura

Hi! My name is Laura. To sum up a big piece of who I am, I LOVE the water. I love to just be in it, to move, breathe, float, stretch, work hard. Water has given me support and freedom ever since I can remember. It is an old friend.

I've been swimming competitively since I was 7, swam at a Division 1 college, and started coaching swimming in 2002. In 2014 I founded Find Your Fins, a nonprofit using swimming to reach veterans, people with addictions, and people with disabilities.

Since 2002, I have been in constant pursuit of learning to become a better teacher and coach. I started looking at infant survival swimming in 2005. I decided not to pursue it for reasons I found on disgruntled websites. I again revisited the idea in 2015 and 2018. After actually observing lesson after lesson, watching the instructor so efficiently and effectively create what I think of as difficult skills to teach to children so young, I decided I had to learn this if I really wanted to excellently teach those I serve.

I'm so glad I did. Becoming an Infant Aquatics Instructor has opened my eyes to how amazing these children 6 months to 5 years truly are. They learn so fast, work so hard, and show how courageous and capable they really are. I believe that these skills not only can save their life, but are building a foundation of deep self-confidence that only comes from learning and doing and achieving hard things.

See you at the pool!
