Hi, My name is Lisa Johnson, owner of Avano Infant Aquatics. I’m originally from New Jersey, but have lived in Pennsylvania for over 25 years. I attended East Stroudsburg University where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. I later attended Misericordia University to earn my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.
I have worked as an occupational therapist since 2010. Most of my experience has been working with children in a school-based setting and early intervention. I have also worked with adults and geriatrics in nursing homes, hospitals and home health care.
I am the mother of 3 amazing kids. When my youngest was born I began to research swim programs that both of my youngest kids could attend. After researching online I realized I wanted my kids enrolled in an infant survival swim program and I knew at that moment I wanted to become an instructor. I could not find any instructors in my area so I stayed at my parents’ house in Florida so my kids could complete the lessons. Then I began looking for a program to become an instructor. I soon found Judy Heumann, founder of Infant Aquatics and signed up to be a trainee. I spent 6-weeks in Colorado learning side by side with Judy and other swim instructors. The training was intense but totally worth it. It was amazing to see the kids making progress so quickly! With my background education in psychology and occupational therapy it was amazing to see those theories applied to teaching survival swimming. I look forward to bringing Infant Aquatics to Monroe County, Pennsylvania and teaching these life saving skills in Weeks, Not Years!
