My name is Rebecca Schacherbauer. My family and I reside in the beautiful Hill Country of central Texas with our dogs and chickens. We absolutely love this community and the beauty that surrounds us which inspired the name of my swim academy, Bluebonnet Infant Aquatics. I provide survival swim skills and stroke technique for children ages 6 months to 6 years.
I am a lifelong water lover. My parents had me on a swim team at a very early age and I competed throughout my adolescence. My love for swimming grew into a passion and purpose that has guided my professional career. I have over 25 years of experience in aquatics as an instructor, lifeguard, coach, and therapist.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Management and Youth Leadership with a focus in Therapeutic Recreation. I am a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and have spent the last 15 years working with individuals of all ages and abilities in recreation and aquatic settings. Being able to facilitate healing through water and movement has given me so much joy. It is actually through my work as an Aquatic Therapist that I began working with individuals that experienced non-fatal drownings and are forever impacted by developmental and cognitive delays. As a CTRS, I am trained in observing behaviors and assessing how to adapt to reach certain goals. These skills have been beneficial in understanding how children learn and how to retain their survival skills through muscle memory. In conjunction with previous experience, I completed 150 hours of hands-on experiential instruction in the Swim-Float-Swim method in Longmont, CO under the direction of Infant Aquatic Survival® (IAS) founder, Judy Heumann.
I have been around the water long enough to know that you can not rely solely on lifeguards, floats, puddle jumpers, or a watchful eye. Teaching infants and children how to save themselves and giving them the ability to survive is the best way to avoid tragedy. It is the reason I enrolled my daughter in survival swim classes as an infant and why I have chosen to take my aquatics training further. I am dedicated to providing these survival skills to your children and to helping our community be safer. I am excited to give you, as parents, confidence in your children’s abilities in and around the water. Drowning is preventable.
