About Shannon

Hello! My name is Shannon Hackler. I am originally from Texas but have lived in Mcalester, Oklahoma for about 10 years. I have an Associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and although I enjoyed working in the medical field, I prefer being a stay-at-home mom to my three young children.

I learned to swim at a very young age and have always been thankful to my mom for giving me the gift of water safety. We live on acreage with creeks and ponds and go to the lake often, so I wanted my children not only to learn to swim, but to have the knowledge and skills to save themselves in case of a water accident. If you are anything like me, then you have a lot of anxiety when it comes to your child/children being near water and want to protect them.

When I started researching swim lessons for my children, I was shocked to discover that the closest instructor to me was 75 miles away. I drove 150 miles a day, four days a week for 8 weeks so that my children could learn lifesaving survival skills from an Infant Aquatics instructor, and it was worth every mile.

After my own children completed the course, I realized that there was a need for a broader awareness of survival swim. When I heard about a three year-old child drowning in our local lake, I understood exactly how critical these skills are and the need for making them more accessible to families in my community. That is why I made the decision to become an Infant Aquatics Instructor and hopefully save one child at a time.

I traveled to Colorado to train with Judy Heumann and her daughter Kyla Blum. The experience was intense, consisting of over 150 hours of hands-on in water training with dozens of infants, toddlers and young children over a 6-week period, in addition to academic study covering infant physiology, child development and behavior.

I’m excited to be part of a movement to prevent child drowning and look forward to teaching your children survival swimming skills in weeks, not years. Feel free to contact me and check out my Facebook page here. I look forward to providing you and your children with the gift of swimming, because drowning is 100% preventable!
