About Candy

Hi! My name is Candy Marcum and I am blessfully married to my wonderful husband of 25 years and we are currently raising our 3 very active children. I have a degree in Biology and taught and coached in the high school arena for several years early on in my career. I have also had some great opportunities to serve in Christian camping ministry through a variety of full time positions. One of my favorite things in camp ministry was being the lifeguard instructor for dozens of camp staffers each summer. As an avid recreational swimmer, I have always been drawn to the refreshment and fun that water activities bring and I wanted to be a part of keeping the thousands of kids who came to our facility safe so everyone went home with a fun filled memory. It was during a training that I discovered one of our college age students could not swim and began sinking below the surface. After pulling her out of the water, I determined that if I ever had children I would make sure they learned early on in life how to be safe in the water. After adopting our children at age 7, 5, and 2 we immediately enrolled them in traditional swim lessons. It quickly became apparent that a one-on-one approach to swim instruction was the absolute best avenue for them to feel safe during instruction and gain the necessary skills, confidence, and repetition to become a true swimmer.

I have always been amazed at how God made the human body. When learning about the Infant Aquatics program I found a deep sense of connection with the techniques utilized and the natural abilities that our Creator has given us. I chose to become an instructor and join Living Water Infant Aquatics because I have a great desire to use my time and talents to bless families and children. I completed an intensive six-week in-water training program as well as academic coursework to enable me to safely and effectively teach infants and young children lifesaving water skills. I am also certified in pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED.

There is no greater comfort that a parent can receive than to know their child is safe and strong and thriving in the life for which God has created them. Because my children’s skin color is darker than mine, I have been made aware of the differences of swimming opportunities from a cultural perspective. A big dream of mine is to help bridge this gap of swimming education and to start with the youngest generation. I pray that I will be able to reach many children of all shades and colors and teach them these life saving skills in the coming years!
