Hi! My name is Kim Williams. I was born in Hollywood, CA. I grew up in Edmonds, WA, and in 2006 I moved to Stanwood-Camano Island in WA state, (there is a bridge to main land).
I am a Christian, former wife of 21 years, mom of an adult son who married his high school sweetheart. They now have 3 children who are my most adorable grandchildren. During my son’s childhood his father and I were parents to a dozen foster children. I homeschooled my son from K – 9th grade, and when he graduated in 2017, I became a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and Red Cross Lifeguard with first aid, adult/child/infant CPR, and AED.
In 3rd grade when I was taking swim lessons, I knew someday I wanted to be a swim instructor. Water is just who I am! I grew up fishing with my dad on lakes, water skiing and inner tubing with my cousins, and as an adult cruising our 27’ boat in open waters, as far north as the Canadian San Juans, with my husband and our then 4-week-old son. I have taught boating safety to kids with the United States Power Squadrons. Now I kayak, teach swim lessons and lifeguard.
As a swim instructor I am referred to as Teacher Kim or Coach Kim. I have taught many students with special needs to swim. I.e. Autism, ADHD, Dwarfism and PTSD with water. I have prepared swimmers for swim teams, and even coached a triathlete! Mostly, I encourage adults and kids to stay with swimming whether it is competitively or for exercise.
In my 7 years of teaching swim, I found that the method I was using was not that efficient so I decided to travel to Colorado and learn under Judy Heumann at Infant Aquatics. This 6-week intensive course teaches kids not only how to float but to swim as well. We start with breath control because if there is a water accident knowing how to hold your breath is critical. Next, we teach swimming and rolling over to float for air., then swimming to safety. This method is known as Swim-Float-Swim. This course also covers child development, child behavior, sensory integration, anatomy, and physiology. I received over 100 hours of hands-on experience with children between 6 month and 6 year old, and 75 hours of competitive stroke techniques.
Drowning is the #1 leading cause of death in children 1-4yrs old. My passion is to leave no child behind. Stop childhood drowning! Give your children the gift of life. Allow them to learn these survival skills. They are so capable! Text me 360-547-3969 to learn more or to sign your child(ren) up.
