Hi everyone! My name is Mera Angel. I am originally from Puerto Rico but grew up in the South Florida area. I am also a mother of three kiddos under the age of 3 and a military spouse.
My husband and I enrolled our oldest back in 2024 in the Otter-ly Safe Infant Aquatics® programs with Taylor Pohanka. We were unsure of what to expect. However, we were incredibly impressed with the classes and truly grateful to walk away with a child who had not only the necessary skills to proactively navigate a water emergency but also a child who could have fun and enjoy swimming recreationally.
We loved the program so much we signed up our second born. We felt the skills that our first had learned were invaluable and something that was absolutely necessary for all of our children to have as a family that loves the water and spends a lot of time around it.
As a military family, we find ourselves moving around a lot. So when I found myself searching for a program in the Sneads Ferry, NC area for our third child, I was surprised to see that Infant Aquatics wasn't available in that immediate area for families. As a mother who understood the importance of implementing safe swimming practices with young children, I felt compelled to bring this life-saving training to the area.
That is when I decided to become certified in Infant Aquatics training.
This decision comes at a perfect time. My background currently is in entertainment law. I support a business and legal affairs team for a sports documentary company in Los Angeles. My role as an advisor to productions is very rewarding. However, I had been feeling for some time like I was being called for something more, and I had a desire for a career change that would allow me the opportunities to be more present with my children.
During my time in Fredericksburg, VA, it’s been very moving to see not only my children, but many other children who have gone through the swim-float-swim program become confident and safe swimmers. The hope is to continue the good work that is being done at Otter-ly Safe and at the many other Infant Aquatics programs by making it available to families in the Sneads Ferry area.
